6 lakh tourists will come to the country in 2018

According to a preliminary survey, seven lakh tourists will visit the country in 2018, said Rezaul Ikram, executive director of the Bangladesh Foundation of Tourism Development.

He said this at a press conference on the occasion of the 6th Bangladesh International Tourism Fair 2018 at Hotel Sonargaon in the capital on Monday.

Organized by Bangladesh Foundation for Tourism Development (BFTD). The fair will start on May 19 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the capital and will continue till May 21. Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu will inaugurate the three-day fair.

Rezaul Ikram said at the press conference, ‘The fair is being organized as part of BFTD’s annual plan. Where the various steps and benefits announced by the government for the development of the tourism sector will be presented.

‘Domestic and foreign tourism organizations, domestic and foreign stakeholders and all those involved in tourism have been invited to this fair. These organizations will highlight other issues including their services and facilities for tourists. 75 companies with different services including airlines, hotels, motels and transport will take part. The total number of stalls will be 110.

Rezaul Ikram further said, ‘This is the first time that China is participating in the Tourism Board Fair. The presence of stalls in the Philippines and Myanmar has also been confirmed. There will be special offers at the fair for travel to Turkey and Singapore.

 Rezaul Ikram further said, ‘Tourists of our country go abroad every Eid. Ramadan is coming soon after the end of the fair. After that Eid-ul-Azha. If we can provide their tourism information before these two festivals, it will be much easier to achieve our goals.

‘There used to be a time when people would go for more than six months of the year including winter. Now his change has come. Tourists visit all year round. Said Rezaul Ikram.

The executive director of the Bangladesh Foundation of Tourism Development said visitors would have to buy tickets worth Tk 20 to enter the fair. Each ticket has a raffle draw. He also said that the fair will be held every day from 10 am to 8 pm.
