Indian athletes made history by winning gold

India last won a medal in athletics in 1900. Norman Pritchard won two silver medals. Since then, India has not won any medal in the Olympic track and field. Neeraj Chopra overcame a 121-year drought at the Olympics. He won a gold medal in the men’s javelin throw event in Tokyo.

According to the Olympic Games website, this is the first time India has won gold in the Olympic track and field. After 2008, Neeraj made history by winning gold in individual events again.

Abhinav Bindra of India won gold in shooting in Beijing in 2006. After 13 years, India tasted gold in the individual event of the Olympics.

Neeraj crossed the distance of 6.03 meters in his first attempt in the javelin throw final of the Games on Saturday. In the second attempt, he covered a distance of 8.58 meters.
